3 Ways to Put Yourself First

Uncategorized Dec 10, 2018

Do you struggle with putting yourself first when life is busy? Do you find yourself saying yes to everyone else's needs but your own? Are you frustrated with your current lack of priority of self-care?

It can be very challenging to put our own needs first when we have families, jobs and life's demands to attend to 24/7. However, it's important that we don't allow our time to get sucked away and it all starts with being more conscious of what we are saying yes to.

Here are 3 simple things you can do to put yourself first. If you want to create more balance in your life, you will need to be diligent at creating boundaries and practicing these things on a regular basis.

3 Ways to Put Yourself First

  1. Don't say YES right away - when someone asks you to do a "quick favor", before you say yes, pause and assess. Is this favor going to help you or hurt you? Does it align with your current goals? If you aren't sure, say "I'll get back to you". That way you have time to stop and think if this favor is going to take away from the time you need to do important things for yourself like exercise, take a break, hit a deadline, spend time with your family, etc.
  2. Do something for yourself first thing in the morning - the morning is the best time to do something for yourself. Wake up 15-20 minutes earlier to read 10 pages in a personal development book, listen to a podcast, or plan your day. When you create a morning ritual, you will immediately feel more in control of your day and have a clear vision of the things you need to get done. Plus you'll start off your day without feeling frantic and avoid what I call "on the go living."
  3. Spend 15-20 minutes a day exercising - you do not need 60 minutes to workout. So many people skip workouts because they "don't have time." Rather than making excuses and putting your health on the backburner, create a sustainable exercise routine. One that is realistic to your lifestyle. 6 days a week for 20 minutes a day would get you significant results and help you manage daily stress. Plus you'd be putting your health at the top of your daily to-do list!

These 3 things can be simple to implement but you have to take action! Sometimes getting advice from a mentor or coach is just what you need to get on track and stay accountable.
