Top 3 Nutrition Hacks To Improve Your Health

Let's face it, we all can make improvements to our current health.

Whether you’re not eating enough fruits and vegetables, relying too heavily on packaged foods or indulging in sugary desserts more often than you should, no one is perfect when it comes to eating.

There are so many quick fix diets and weight loss programs out there that it can be daunting to try and figure out what really works!

Making changes can feel overwhelming.

How do you know where to start?

I tell my clients all the time that the goal is to not focus on perfection. Aim to focus on making small changes one day at a time, which will set you up for long term success.

The goal should be to create a healthy lifestyle. Diets and fads are the exact opposite, which is why so many people gain the weight back that they lose, and then some. The latest diet trends are not sustainable.

Here are my top 3 Nutrition Hacks that will help you improve your health for the long haul:

  1. A bad meal doesn't equal a bad day!
Just because you have one bad meal does not mean you should throw in the towel for the rest of the day. Think about it, you can consume thousands of unnecessary calories by giving up over one meal! Just get back on track. Eat clean the rest of the day, add in more veggies, fruits and lean proteins to your diet. If your bad meal was dinner, wake up the next day and start fresh. As I said above, we aren't perfect nor will we ever be! Focus on eating clean and healthy 80-90% of the time...that's living a balanced life and still allowing yourself to indulge here and there.

  2. No more dieting!
I encourage you to look at nutrition as a way of life. We should be eating to fuel our bodies. Focus on eating in proper portions while still enjoying the foods you love. Eat clean, avoid processed food and read the food labels! Anything that has over 8 grams of sugar in it should be avoided. I suggest shopping the outer aisles of the grocery store as much as possible. That's where all the fresh produce, meats and less processed foods are. When you make your food rather than buying it in a box, you have control over what goes into your body.

  3. Carbs are not your enemy!
This one kills me.....we NEED carbs in our diet! Carbs are a source of energy. They help us burn fat and gain muscle. I suggest eating a healthy balance of macronutrients (carbohydrates, lean proteins, and healthy fats). Our bodies need carbs but we should definitely consume more of the carbs that have nutritional value such as sweet potatoes, quinoa, beans, and lentils. There are a ton of healthy recipes to follow that will give these foods tons of flavor and make them fun to eat. My favorite place to search for recipes is the Beachbody Blog.

Regardless if your goal is to lose weight or just live healthier, these 3 nutrition hacks will help. You just have to commit to implementing them!
